Mentorship + Interview

I’m very excited to announce that I’ve won Plenitude’s Mentorship Award for creative non-fiction! For more interview, see the magazine’s post here.

Basically, what this means is that I’ll be able to work on some of my creative non-fiction work with the author, essayist, and poet Michael V. Smith. I’m very excited about this; partly because Michael is a great writer, and also because I’ve received very little guidance with my creative non-fiction. I have a few things I want to write about and express, but the genre of autobiography has been one I’ve studied more in academia than written in. It will be a relief to not intellectualize what I produce as much as I would for an academic article, and mostly focus on producing something with a clear emotive focus. Most of this mentorship will take place in the summer after teaching classes are done. No doubt, I’ll update more about this project then.

Also, thanks to Speculating Canada and Derek Newman-Stille, I have a new interview. This interview was so much fun to do! Please have a listen and if you have time, check out the rest of Derek’s podcasts/radio shows. They are so well done. Derek is a great interviewer and always manages to bring out the best in the authors he speaks to.

Finally, I’m in the process of updating my list of publications. I’ve had quite a few things come out as of late and I aim to have a more up-to-date list as soon as possible. Be sure to look at the poetry section especially. I’ve been busy with a lot of spec fic poems!
